3D Camera for Smartphones

Intel, Google Team on 3D Camera Tech for Smartphones

Dan Heilman | August 19, 2015

On opening day of the 2015 Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco yesterday, company CEO Brian Krzanich ... gave attendees a look at a prototype smartphone integrated with an Intel RealSense 3D camera. The camera would be contained in a Google Project Tango smartphone.
Holding up the prototype phone, about the size of an average Android smartphone, Krzanich said the device would "breaks the limits of what a phone can do." Intel’s team in Israel integrated the 3D tech with Project Tango.

At present, Project Tango is not connected to the company's Android ecosystem, although if and when the evolutionary steps begin to take place and it's determined that there’s genuine, real-world use for its powers, it’s more than likely that those on Google’s mobile ecosystem will be among the very first beneficiaries.
