Your Accent Could Offensively Alter Your Google Search Results

Google has a track record of patenting some pretty wacky tech, but its latest effort might end up offending as many people as it amuses.
Its proposal, spotted by Quartz, is for a voice search system that would adapt results according to a user's accent. Based on the information the search algorithm has about the general likes and dislikes of people with that accent, the engine will predict a user's preferences for restaurants, places and movies. And so the inevitable jibes about northerners and Greggs the baker begin.
